Recent reports reveal that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) uncovered an alleged fake university operating from a residential apartment in Badagry, Lagos. More than 100 young people from Nigeria and neighbouring West African countries were reportedly rescued after being lured with promises of admission into a foreign university.

According to reports, victims allegedly paid between ₦200,000 and ₦1.5 million (and some foreign students reportedly paid $400–$500) for fake admission and processing fees. The scheme also allegedly encouraged participants to recruit others in exchange for commissions, resembling a Ponzi-style recruitment model.

This is heartbreaking and it’s a reminder that thousands of students are vulnerable to misinformation, fake admissions, and fraudulent opportunities online.
